Taylor taught and preached, was doubtless burned by white ruffain's[[ruffians]] "with just brains enough to think they were doing something smart"  So said one of the white citizens to me  A negro without doubt fired the Episcopal church in revenge for the burning of the building owned by the colored men  The whites accuse Taylor of being instrumental in the burning of the Episcopal church
Taylor seemed quite jealous of the influence and preaching of colored men differing from him in certain church doctrines  A colored preacher named Hill - I believe from Isle of Wight made an appointment to preach on a certain Sunday, in the "old church" referred to   Hill and Taylor were antagonistic on the question of baptism
