3 East 51st Street
New York, N. Y.

August 23, 1937.

Mr. Germain Seligmann,
9 Rue de la Paix,
Paris, France.

Dear Germain:

As you know, I just arrived in New York two days ago and found the following wire waiting for me at the office:

"DISAPPOINTED YOU CANNOT SECURE FOR SALE PICTURES BY DAUMIER WHICH WE DESIGNATED ESPECIALLY THE DOUCET AMATEUR OF PRINTS AND THE TYPES FROM MOLIERE WE PREFER TWO LAWYERS TO THE PORTRAIT OF DEBUREAU BUT WOULD LIKE TO SEE THAT SKETCH DECISION MUST WAIT UNTIL SEPTEMBER

DUNCAN PHILLIPS"

Enclosed herewith is copy of letter I have written to Mr. Phillips.

In the meantime, unless Brame has the Daumier tied up, for one reason or the other, I would suggest that you or Cesar arrange to have it shipped over immediately, prior if necessary, to the first shipments that will be coming over, so I can get after this matter right away and settle the thing once and for all.

I have copies with me of the letters written by Cesar and myself to Mr. Phillips from Paris this summer, and as I remember it, the price quoted for the above picture is $15,000.

If you have any word of instruction or advice to add about the handling of this deal, please write me about it immediately.

I am leaving tomorrow for Saratoga and Chicago, to be gone about ten days.

With best wishes, as ever

Yours sincerely,
Bob.
