Dear Mr. Séligmann:

I received your very welcome letter of July 22nd enclosing check in the sum of $760 for additional June expenses which certainly relieved a rather tense situation and another check for $1500 against which, as requested, I sent a check in the same amount to Mrs. C. Cecil Williams (ex Mrs. Hamershlag) in full payment of her Redon.

Regarding the $150 which I disbursed for the account of Mrs. Raiss and which Mrs. Raiss reimbursed, I wish to explain that the $150 which I paid the restorer came out of my Cashier Account while her check was deposited to the account of J. S. & Co. therefore causing a shortage in my account of $150.

The rest of your letter has been carefully noted, especially as regards the three new Degas which matter I already talked over thoroughly with Mr. Robbins, and I will take it up with him again on my return from vacation, and incidentally his, as he will only be back the beginning of September.

MR. EDGAR - Sold 100 shares Humble Oil at 82-1/2.

REPAIRS - The ground, first and second floors have finished, which leaves the third floor and your apartment for September. What retarded us so very much was the painting of the first floor front room, but I am certain that when you see it you will approve of it. It looks splendid! By the time you return to New York everything will have been taken care of as requested.

Enclosed please find Balance Sheet, Profit & Loss Account and Analysis of General Expense as at July 31st, 1937; bank balance of the firm as at August 2nd, 1937, statement of your personal finances as at August 3rd, 1937 as well as list of payments against the reserve of $650 for "Other Bills Payable" for the month of July 1937.

I wish to take this opportunity to express my gratitude once more for having allowed me to close the galleries for the month of August. This will indeed give us a marvelous rest and I know everybody appreciates it very much, especially myself, as I am hoping that the coming season will be the best and most strenuous we ever had.

Very faithfully yours,
