9 rue de la Paix, Paris. July 22nd., 1937. Dear Hans: Your two last letters of June 25th-29th., and July 7th-8th., I have not answered yet and I want to thank you for same. FREDERICK BECKMAN: I don't believe anyone in the firm knows them, and I consider it therefore a great deal better not to bother them here and we can try and sell them some modern paintings this autumn. W. R. HEARST: We just have to wait I guess, until he is in a better mood! MR AND MRS BRISTOL: Do keep after them so that through her we might be able to get to Flesh. YOUNG Mrs. Metcalf: Who is she? I only know a middle-aged lady! You know, of course, that César and I have been right along on very good terms with her. She is a very charming lady and has a lovely house, but so far has not indulged, but she is certainly a "key" to the social set of Providence. However, there again, the new set is probably a great deal more interesting. MRS CROWNINSHIELD: Is she related to Frank C.? of Condé Nast?? BELIN: I am sorry you couldn't go to the Belin's? MRS CORNELIUS J. SULLIVAN: She is a very good friend of César, and I am also, I think, on good terms with her. I don't believe, therefore, it makes much sense your going to see her - but I have no objection to your calling. WILLIAM TAYLOR: I don't doubt he is in town as long as you say he is, but we have not seen him here. CANADA: All right, make your further investigation with Robert Landry and Emil Singer. METTERNICH: Isn't it strange that you never heard from the Princess AUTOMOBILE EXPENSES: I am writing by same mail to Liechti. I am sorry to disappoint you, but the firm will just pay you half of your running expenses, up to $80. That is, the maximum of $40., per month BEATRICE CARTWRIGHT: I have not seen her yet. I shall try and see her if and when I go to the Riviera.
