TRAVELERS AID
If the estimates of the World's Fair officials are borne out, this city, beginning next April, will be the terminus of the greatest pilgrimage in history. Millions of travelers from all directions will converge on New York, and hundreds in every million will need help of some kind. To give this help promptly the Travelers Aid Society is preparing to man the city's gateways.

Young folks grow restless and reckless with a World's Fair at the other end of the rainbow. Runaway boys and girls will be arriving bewildered and without funds. The Travelers Aid will look after them. But it is not always a question of money or advice. Perhaps an elderly couple with plenty of funds have become separated before registering at their hotel. The one who does not happen to be carrying the money will be helpless without the Travelers Aid. Separated families, indeed, represent about half the case load. But instances multiply themselves in endless variety, especially in the terminal congestion which a great exposition develops. Since 1904 the society has been working at world's fairs and knows the technique.

Naturally the problem of organizing to meet this influx is a tremendous one. At the Century of Progress Exposition it was necessary for the Travelers Aid to enlarge its staff by 125 per cent. Certainly the demand will not be less here. But the society has not the funds to meet this increased demand and must depend on those who recognize the essential service it performs. The Travelers Aid has had a long and honorable career, and a generous public will surely rally to its support when the need for its ameliorating offices has reached a peak.
