Dear César:

I am in receipt of your letters of March 16th, and 21st., at the same time.

STAUB: As regards the Staub, I am leaving this matter in the hands of René as I don't see why he shouldn't busy himself with something too.

FRANKFURT-GAUGUIN: I am surprised that you are still waiting for my cable answer, as I did in fact cable you as soon as I received your former letter and I have not changed my mind on this topic.

LAUTREC-AMIRAL VIAUD: At your request I am returning the Photo. It is NOT the type of Lautrec I want to buy, and therefore I wouldn't consider paying $10,000., or practically that for the painting.

BRAME-TWO DEGAS DRAWINGS: I am incapable of judging them. If they are as beautiful as you describe them, I most probably will be very desirous of buying a share should the Paris firm and you, buy them.

MOLYNEUX in connection with DUBRU: By all means, when everything will be lost I am of the opinion of "burning the bridges" and going to Dubru with Molyneux' offers, but I consider it as an extreme step.

DECAP RENOIR: I am watching events and if I feel that we can have peace for another two or three months, I shall buy it. As to offering a share to Carstairs, Knoedler, etc., etc., I shall NOT do it.

GERARD-UTRILLO: I am not interested, really, in buying now a painting by this artist for $4,000.

BRAME CONSIGNMENT: a very small Guardi has very little interest, but I have no objection to having it consigned to us, but I repeat if it is that small it might just as well remain in Paris. a Guardi drawing for $3,000., or $4,000! - NO.

Pissarro Gouache: Yes, might be of interest.

Delacroix horse: Not at his price!

DOUCET PAINTINGS AT MUSEUM OF MODERN ART: I will not do anything about the Cézanne "Femme au chapelet" and the Matisse unless I have definite options on those paintings for several months and prices. I am not going to work for other people to approach Mme. Doucet directly and behind my back. It all sounds very nice the way you put it, but you know perfectly
