DELACROIX, Eugène (1798-1863)

"TIGER AND TURTLE"

Oil: 18" x 24-3/4"

Signed lower left: "Eug. Delacroix 1862"

In a clearing, a snarling tiger, seen in profile and moving towards the right, surprises a turtle which he holds pinned to the ground with his left paw. Trees and shrubs in the right background; mountainous landscape on the left; blue sky.

Masterful work by the artist who, in order to give to the animal greater volume, has painted it seen from slightly above.
