Dear Mr. Seligman:

This morning a letter from Mr. Howe in California dated June 30th. as follows:

Dear Germain: Forgive this tardy reply to your very kind letter of June 10th. Ever since my return from the East a few weeks ago, I have been so preoccupied with the problems which inevitably arise during the closing days of the fiscal year and also with some major gallery changes that I have not had an opportunity to write you. paragraph. I was indeed ve y much taken with you Degas and I greatly appreciate your offer of cooperation in the matter of price. However, there have been other developments in the meantime, in view of which it will not be possible for me to pursue the matter at present. I am sorry that I can't be more explicit at the moment. paragraph. Please give my very best greetings to Ethlyne and tell her how disappointed I was that we couldn't all get together before my return. Sincerely yours Signed: Tom (Thomas C. Howe, Jr.)

I answered:

Dear Mr. Howe: In Mr. Germain Seligman's absence, during his vacation, I have opened your letter to him of June 30th., regarding the painting by Degas. paragraph. I shall forward it to him within the next few days. Very S.Y.

The three books we were having bound by MacDonald came on Friday, and they are beautiful.

I am also enclosing copy of a letter received from Mr.sAdolph Gottlieb of the Graphic Circle, which Mr. Liechti asked me to forward.

I hope Mr. Seligman and you arrived safely in Caneel Bay, and with best wishes for a very pleasant stay,
