General,
I have the honor to enclose herewith Duplicate receipts of James Carter, late Priv. Co. E. 21st U.S.C. Tps, for $18 32/100, being amount of check No. 2502, on the Asst. Treas. of the U.S. N.Y. enclosed in your communication of September 10th 1868, in payment of back pay due him.
     
Please inform me, if possible, as to whereabouts of Carters discharge papers.
