The teachers board is paid by the cooperative colored men’s store at Newports News, send her salary from the Peabody fund. 

6th  School in 2nd Dist. Mathews Co. is taught by an intelligent colored man: his board is paid from tuition money, 10 cts, a week from each pupil, and salary from the Peabody fund. The school is doing well, the building is substantial, land is owned by freedmen, and it ought to become a fixture. 

7th  School in 3rd Dist. Gloucester Co. is in charge of an undergraduate of the Hampton Normal School who is succeeding well.
The house is small and both house and land are owned by a colored man who will probably continue to devote both to educational purposes. Teachers board is paid by tuition money: his salary from the Peabody fund.
