13th. The Friends Association of Philadelphia put a teacher to Fort Magruder James City County Va. who has collected a large pay school, thus securing all living expenses from freedman. His salary is paid in part from the Peabody fund. I think, from personal observation, that this teacher is apt to be tardy in assembling his school, but he appears to be a shrewd competent man, and with oversight, would do very well. He has a fine field of operations although the land and building are not freedman's property.

14th In the freedman's church at Williamsburg there has been for some time, a colored school now taught by a capable young colored man from Philadelphia, whose living is paid by tuition and his salary, in part, from the Peabody fund. There is every prospect of a permanent school at this place, and a very good teacher is needed. The influence of a school here will, in time, be marked and very beneficial.

I would commend this school to special attention.
