By direction of the Asst. Comr. in accordance with instructions of the Commissioner of April 21st 1869, you will expend the sum of ten (10) Dollars per month. commencing April 1st 1869 for rent of Freedmen's School House situated in Lynchburg. Va. Rent to be paid to Rev. J.P. Jay:

This expenditure is based upon an application of citizens of Lynchburg addressed to the Commissioner and referred to Asst. Comr. Dist Va. April 21st 1869. now on file in this office.

Gentlemen,
I am directed by the Asst Comr to request information related to a School house situated at Charlottesville Va. erected by northern men, said to be unused for school purposes.

This information is desired so that steps may be taken to have the building used for the purpose it was intended.

The Commissioner informs this office that the condition of the above named School house was reported by the Messrs Merrick of Philadelphia.

I have the honor to enclose herewith vouchers for $86 00/100 Signed by Wm. Taylor. priv. Co. "A" 2nd U.S Col. Trp's for amount of Bounty due him.

The draft for $87 00/100 and discharge of John H. Smith Priv. Co. I. 5th Mass. C. Cav. have been referred to E. M. Webber Agent for payment of Bounties whose receipt will be forwarded to you as soon as received.

The above named papers were enclosed in your letter of Sept. 25th 1868.
