also to a copy of Colonel Barnes' account current for December 1865. (this being the month in which Colonel Barnes states that he accounted for the money $500/ and a copy of the account of sales of Messrs Purnell and McIlvaine of Govt property sold by them for Colonel Barnes in December 1865 with location of property and name of purchaser. -These are the only parties mentioned on the account current in connection with his sales of property for December 1865. An examination of these papers shows that no mention is made of any sale at Clarksville and that the amount stated by Messrs Purnell & McIlvaine as having been sold by them, exceeds the amount taken up and accounted for by Colonel Barnes on his account current for December $34 41/100 - viz:

Total amount received from Sales 10141.25
Commission of Purnell and McIlvaine 219.12
Amount to be accounted for 9922.13
Amount accounted for by Col. Barnes 9887.72
Difference $34.41

Your attention is also invited to the fact that Messrs Purnell and McIlvaine give the names of the purchasers of the property sold by them, which names are not those of the purchasers of the Clarksville property.

In view of the Evidence herewith submitted I cannot believe that Col. Barnes ever paid over to the Government the sum of Five hundred dollars ($500) as claimed by him.
