General,
I have the honor to submit the following report of the operations of Bureau affairs for the month of June 1868, viz:

The number of Freedmen aided by the Bureau during the past month was "Three thousand three hundred and ninety one" (3391), of this number "Four hundred and sixty" (460) were in Hospital. The decrease of dependants from the preceding month is "One thousand two hundred and ninety four (1294).

The number of Refugees receiving rations was "Two hundred and sixty six" (266), a decrease of "One hundred and twenty eight" (128) persons.
 
The number of Schools in this District during the month was "Two hundred and twenty one" (221) of which number "Twelve" (12) were Night Schools. The whole number of teachers were "Two hundred and sixty four" (264). The whole number of scholars "Eleven thousand seven hundred and twenty three" (11.723), with an average attendance of "Eight thousand one hundred and sixty nine" (8169). -

The Schools conducted by the Northern charitable associations have closed. Many Schools conducted as private enterprises, will continue during the vacation. This class of Schools is increasing.

The number of persons treated for sickness by the Bureau Medical Department during the month was "Three thousand three hundred and three" (3303)_— The number remaining under treatment June 30. 1868 was "Six hundred and twenty six" (626).

The number of Insane remaining at the end of the month was "Fifty eight" (58).

The number of Orphans under charge of the Bureau on the 30th of June 1868 was "Ninety one" (91).

I have the honor to request that the appointment of William Null as an Agent of this Bureau be revoked to date July 21. 1868 - and that Saml F. Maddox be appointed an Agent of this Bureau, at a salary of $100 per month to date from the date of subscribing to the required oath.
