The virulence of feeling increased against me every day.  My land lord began to show signs of uneasiness.  The influence of the leading men in the place were bro't to bear against him.  He was told if he continued to harbor me, the public wo'd withdraw their patronage from him, & he finally requested me to leave his house, & there was not a place in town where I co'd find board excepting at the Hotels, where none of the officers & soldiers of the army boarded & where also I co'd not stay except by military authority.  I state these facts to show the spirit of the people, thus showing the insurmountable obstacles in the way of my work.  There are three unoccupied churches in the place, but I co'd neither get offers to rent or sale.  The feeling against me was most bitter & was expressed as far as it co'd be without attracting the notice of the military.
