Petersburg Oct 1865

To his excellency, The President of the United States.

Dir Sir,
I address you on a subject of vital importance to me, as the subsistence of me and my daughters, for the next year depends on the success of this application. I have been a widow for 4 years. My husband died in the 73d year of his age and I am now 68 years old. The only son I ever had died in infancy, so I have had no near relation in the army and I can truly say that I am a loyal citizen of the United States. My Farm which is in Prince George, 4 miles from Petersburg, is now a perfect waste houses, fencing &c destroyed. A great deal of the timber has been cut and used by the Government There is now corded wood on the place which might support me this winter and my humble petition is that you will give me an order to stop its being hauled away.
