Fort Monroe Aug. 26/65

Col. O. Brown
Asst. Com. B. R. & A. Lands

Colonel
I have the honor to report that we are overrun with applications to rent lands for next year. It is now time to prepare land for a fall crop of wheat, & hence the reason.

I notice a printed list of farms set apart for the use of the Freedmen's Bureau. Several of them are given up or sold & very few of them are desirable except to rent as farms. Several are now rented by whites. There are quite a number better adapted to our wants not included & really among the worst Rebel farms. Can the list be correct or enlarged? Or shall we warn off the white occupants & make the best we can of these. If you see any objiction to leasing these and other clearly abandoned lands for the year to come please send derictions, &c &c
