I am informed by Capt. Flagg, Supt. at Norfolk, that Mr. Thomas Hume has written an application, which has been forwarded to you, for the immediate possession of the House now occupied by me by Virtue of a Lease from your Bureau, which Lease was for the term of One year from 1st. September last.  The intent of Hume is to secure the annulling of this Lease, & I am informed that in his application he has stated Lieut. Keatley promised him in June last to rent him (H) this House before the Lease for the same to me was executed.  This statement I cannot rely upon for a moment, and I think you will agree with me that Lieut. K. was too good an Officer & too much of a gentleman to make such false & inconsistent promises as Mr. Hume implies.  As you
