Reports have been received from the Medical Officers of the Bureau in this District, in regard to means provided for, the extinguishing of fires accidentally occurring. These precautions in the main are satisfactory; in former instances not so. I judge it prudent to give the following directions Viz:- One barrel of water shall be kept at all times, either within or near the door of each ward, or other building attached to the Hospital. Three (3.) buckets, to be always full of water, will be kept in an accessable place in each ward or other building. 

The Surgeon in charge of a Hospital will give each practical instructions to the attendants of the Hospital, as will insure prompt action if a fire occurs.

The necessary seeds for planting Hospital gardens will be paid for by the Quarter Masters Department. An application for the same using economy in the quantity, will be forwarded to my office promptly. When more ground is attached to Hospitals that can be profitably worked by the attendants and convalescents, the Surgeons in charge are autherized to let, so
