Richmond Va June 16th 1868

Circular Letter

To Medical Officers Bureau R. F. & AL. Dist Va.

The season of the year has arrived when close attention to Sanitary conditions is highly important, not only in Hospitals, but in Quarters.
Medical Officers in charge of Bureau Hospitals in the Dist Va- will see that the buildings and grounds are in a neat condition, and free from all causes of disease. No stagnant water should be allowed to stand on any grounds under the control of an Officer of the Bureau in Charge of a Hospital, and every effort should be made to prevent such causes of disease from existing in the neighborhood of the Hospital. Where such nuisances exist outside of Hospital grounds, application to proper authority will generally ensure their abatement. Special attention should be paid, constantly, to the condition of cesspools to ensure their proper conditions. Proper ventilation of Hospital wards should be made
