Major Sumner:

Dear Sir:
I understand that an unfortunate affair which occurred this morning at the plantation of Major J. M. Greaves and in which a negro was killed by Capt Johnson has been reported to you. Permit me to state that Capt Johnson has surrendered himself to the civil authorities and an investigation will take place before Hon. A. L. Dabney, County Court Judge, at Raymond, on to morrow, or on the next day at farthest.
