NARA 105 wagon in question out of the county, and perhaps out of the State, when Mr. Welborn, in order to secure the property he had purchased, sued out an attachment. I have no doubt that Miller, subsequent to the sale of the wagon to Mr Welborn, also sold it to the negro Randal Moran. Miller is notoriously (and claims to be, and seems to glory in the reputation) the biggest rascal in this community, and his character well justifies the presumption that he would resort to even more dirty tricks. My statements in regard to his character will be substantiated by reference to any reputable citizen, white or black in this vicinity. I presume that he reported the case to the Bureau. It will be my duty as a justice of the peace to return the papers in the case to the Circuit Court at Raymond, where the several claims to the property attached, will be judicially investigated. I expect to discharge that duty to morrow, when my connection with the case will cease. I am very respectfully Your obt Servt. Thos. A. Clark Justice of peace [] Dec. 12, 67 Thos. H. Clark [] P.S. I hope that the foregoing statement will prove satisfactory, but if not, I am, at any time, most cheerfully at your service. Regards to my quondam acquaintance Lieut. Hitchcock. T.H.C.
