the affray, the Assault & the indignaty; offered by the Taylors on the person of the Bureaus Agent, the process too of the Civil Authority is weak - Something prompt and powerful would work to the miricle with such characters - men who are lawless and asume to avenge their conjectured wrongs as in the case of Poor Old Jack Walker where I was trying to secure him simple justice and they so rounded me in [[/strikethrough]] at [[/strikethrough]] the shades of night thretning my life for what I had done & was doing in the discharge of my Official duties as Magistrate.
I have been told by Gentlemen who they are & what they are - or they could not have escaped me so easily for their assault & threttened vengance! I hope you will take the matter in hand seeing how much more able you are to manage such characters than I am and keep them in check! Albert Brown was in discharge of duty you had Required of him in connection with the Bureau under your controul and with such consideration & views I advised him to make application to you for Redress and consequently sending you the foregoing as explanition which I hope will meet with your approbation! The papers sent to the County Court wherein Albert Brown obtained judgement before me for $36.55 and all Costs $21.37 makeing against the Taylor's $57.92 should be demanded and as it is reported they are lost. decree for the money (Judgement & Costs $57.92) be instantly paid as the whole process was gotten up to prevent the said Albert Brown Freedman from getting his rights,
