FREEDOMWAYS THIRD QUARTER 1966 DEMOCRACY AT HOME Democracy cries out for all to see America, where all mankind are free. Where Justice reigns supreme and freedom's light, Eradicate foul acts and champions right. Where men live happy in this freedom given A land of love and peace, an early heaven Where earth's top orchestra is heard all day, (That's little children's laughter while at play). Where every man can rise to his full height Wrong is condemned and justice upholds right Where all men can enjoy this earthly stay, Where joy and peace, they dominate the day. These are the tales preached by the rudely wise Believe me, friend, they are concocted lies So if you will with me awhile abide I'll tell the truth, at least please hear my side The Founding Fathers started out, you see To build a nation where all men were free They did their best, that's all a man can do To make a decent land for me and you But time moved on, for time is bound to pass The Fathers took their place beneath the grass. Then others came to power in their place, To mock the poor and hound the Negro race. Their hand-picked Court gave out that foul decision* That made Black men the mark for all derision. It said, "The Blacks shall have no rights" so-called, That White men ever need respect at all. * Dred Scott Decision 232
