FREEDOMWAYS FIRST QUARTER 1973
have a future as an academic institution only to the degree that its leader is commiteed to upholding quality education and the principled of its founder, Horace Mann. Otherwise, it is not an exaggeration to say that Antioch will be on its way out of history. The continuation and strengthening of the Horace Mann Bond Center of the Antioch Graduate School of Education, with supporting resources are acid test of the Antich commitment.
It is the acide test because it was the Washington Center which originated the Appalachian Studies, Huntington Program, now located in Huntington, West Virginia, recruited the first native Ameriican students and initiated native studies within the college. The Washington Center was also responsible for facilitating the Chicacgi COllege, (Colegio Jacinto Trevino) Austin, Texas, by allowing it to become a sub-center and eventually pushing the college to give it full center status.
The Washington Center therefore gives Antiochan excellent opportunity to practice what it so eloquently preaches.
