I have now no apprehensions of any further disturbances as the "Common Council" of the town assure me that an officer shall be in attendance during the training sessions whenever I require it.

I have experienced considerable difficulty in getting a suitable room for the school, one that is sufficiently large to accommodate the number of scholars that attend as will be seen by Miss Woods report herewith enclosed. She commenced with about 30 scholars. The 19th of Feby /66 - on account of the large attendance, especially at the Evening session (which is owing to the fact of many being in service cannot attend in the day time) I was obliged to assist Miss Wood in her cuties, until I could get a male teacher from the aid society. A Gentleman by the name of Pratt arrived here yesterday from Boston Mass. This gentleman will be of great service, & benefit t[[?]] improving the condition of the freedmen. I find him to be a gentleman of high moral character, and his ability as a teacher unexceptionable
