fairly with freedmen and I think the influence of the bureau is the only thing that keeps them from doing injustice to these freedmen, No instance of injustice has occurred this last month. The County Court made the tax levy for 1866 a report of which was forwarded as required by Cir No 15. The amount of poor levy for this year is ($1238.58). The poor tax of last year has not been all collected and the people are not able to pay until after their crops are sold. I think no county in the state suffered more than this county from the war and it will require years to bring them back the state of prosperity they enjoyed before the war. The overseers of the Poor would take charge of all sick & infirm freedmen if they are able to do so. I have registered 252 marriages of Freedman and should have finished but for culling hands away from their work when every hour is needed to ensure a return for labor
