Sir,
Your order through Abner Abraham was rec'd by me just this moment - by meeting him in the road. I am perfectly satisfied what the nature of his complaints are, & if you desire it I will answer personally to them. - but - before doing so I wish to state to you the whole truth. This Man & his Wife has been threatening me for the past two months & I would not have been surprise at any moment to have had my person attacked by them. These threats were not provoked by me in the least,- for up to this time of the difficulty I do not remember speaking an unkind word to them.
On last Wednesday they seemed determined on a difficulty. I went in the field several times & found them idle. & remonstrated with them in kind words,- but it did no good. Abners Brother, said to me the last time I went in to the field that you are taking to [[too]] much from them, & several of the other hands - complained to me at the indolence of these two hands_ I went again to the portion of the field & found that they had entirely stoped [[stopped]] their plows  I told them to drive up. & his wife commenced abusing me & bantering for a fight - & I struck her
