have been struck by Murphy. Case referred to Wm Shoemaker J.P. who did not call upon a colored man who was present at the time Murphy struck the girl, but swore Murphy who testified that he did not strike the girl. Murphy was discharged.

Most of the freedmen are ignorant of the manner in which they should proceed and come to the Bureau for advice, The freedmen are working well and most of those who have taken plantations to work, for a portion of the crop, are working hard and have a fair prospect of being  well repaid for their work

I have issued thirteen hundred and thirty two rations to destitute freedmen at this post during the month. I have not yet received any reports from the Clerk of the Courts of the tax levy to have been made this month. I have asked for the report
