In compliance with Cir. No 6. C.S. I have the the honor to report for the month of August 1866 that Bureau affairs are unchanged. I have [[strikethrough]]rode[[/strikethrough]] ridden through different parts of Botetourt County during the last month and also through a portion of Bedford County. The White citizens of the former county are better disposed towards the freed-people as a general thing, then what they are in the latter. And several of the most influential families near Fincastle are teaching colored persons at their own residences and other are taught in different churches through the county on Sundays which has a very good affect to restore confidence between the two races. But on the other hand there is a party in this county to, that are uncompromising and opposed to everything that is favorable to the Negro. This county (Botetourt) provides for its poor both white and colored and no rations have been
