of both the white and colored poor, and the poor house, &c., for this year, has been completed in this County.

Thus far I have not had sufficient time to give satisfactory replies to Circular No. 23, from same source as the above, for this County, and for the same reason, and by having to await request horse equipments; my predecessor having taken his own, which he had been using, away with him, I have been able to accomplish very little in regard to the registry of marriages, which had not been commenced when I came here.

As yet I have met with no response in relation to the subject matter of Circular No 7, C.S. War Dept, B. R. F. & A. L In the mean time, finding that I should need the information, I made application on the 25th Inst., to know who then the government would furnish transportation to any person or persons, white or colored, who being desirous to avail themselves of the provisions of the act cited in the above order, may not possess the means wherewith to defray the expenses of a journey to the place where the land is located that they may desire to enter and settle on; and also what course it would be necessary to pursue under such circumstances, &c.

I am, General, Very Respectfully,
Your Obt. Servt.
