In Nottoway County, the Freedmen are treated with a degree of fairness and justice which is very gratifying, the citizens of this county are far more liberal towards the Freedmen, than in Lunenburg County, 'Tis true there are occasional cases of beating and oppression of the Freedmen, reported to me, but I am happy to state, that the majority of the people are disposed to act fairly towards the Freedmen, it being to their interest to do so. I do not wish by this, to be understood that no prejudice or bitter feeling exists in this County, for it does to a certain extent, but not so strong as to materially injure the Freedmen's prospects.

Freedmen's Schools.

The want of some some schools is felt badly - the Freedmen are all anxious to educate their children, but no opportunity exists for doing so. I would earnestly recomend that a School be established here as soon as practicable.
