by their master, there was no shelter for them but this old stable on the river shore which they went into, I furnished them rations, there is no chimney to the building they build a fire in the center of the building, the smoke escapes through a hole cut in the roof; Parker came to me a few days since and asked me to "notify them to leave the stable," I then gave the old colored man a note to one of the Trustees of the Poor asking him to furnish he and his family with shelter, The Trustee sent him back saying there was no provisions made for his race. I said nothing more to the old man. In two days after that Parker came to me and in the a presence of my wife and other females called me a God d-d Yankee and used other filthy words, at the same time shaking his fist in my face (which I resented as personal abuse) and said that he would hold me responsible for their not leaving the stable, The last County Court took the matter up and ordered the Sheriff to put the old man and his things out doors, which he did. As soon as I heard that this was done I ordered the old man to put his things back into the stable and remain there until the Civil Authorities furnished him with another house.
