In compliance with circular No 6 Dated Hd Qrs Asst Comr Va Richmond Va Jany 29 1866 I have the honor to report the State of feeling between the better class of the Whites and the freedmen to be very good. There is less "croaking" about freedmens not working and responsible men inform me that they are making more from their farms now than they ever did
before and with a great deal less labor I often hear men say "well my darkies are free and before the war I was obliged to sell one or two to keep even, now I have no such drag and can sell which before I could not do". The immense crops of corn fully attest the recuperative power of this region. The Freedmen as a class are working faithfully. A few employers having kind freedmen by giving a part of the crop and the freedmen bounding themselves being accounts
