Sir I have the honor to inform you that complaint has been made at this Office by Dennis Jefferson (freedmen) in effect that he has been assaulted with deadly weapons in the hands of one Edward Moon Citizen of Newton County on or about the 3rd inst. Also that the aforesaid Edward Moon has without justice or warrant in law forcibly taken array from the said Jefferson - in fact stolen - a mare Jefferson's personal property. These cases are respectfully referred to you for such action as the statutes of the State of Miss demands of a local magistrate therein made and provided. Please notify this Office in writing or otherwise of action taken also result of same. Your attention is respectfully invited to the fact that no reply has been received from communication addressed to you from this office. Dated November 27, 1867. State of Tennessee Sir Application having been made at this office by Winston Yarborough (freedman) for assistance in recovering possession of his daughter Francis Yarborough, age about 16 or 17 years who was taken from Forrest Station Scott County Miss without his consent by one Jerry Banks in the year 1865 (Banks is supposed to be now living in Memphis Tenn. occupation bookkeeper formerly @ conductor on the Southern R.R.) I have the honor very respectfully to ask the assistance of the Asst. Comr State of Tenn in ascertaining wether or not Banks lives in Memphis, also if the girl is still with him, together with such suggestions as to the probability of restoring the girl to her father as may be deemed pertinent.
