in which many of the former have heretofore been made victims. The greatest pecuniary embarrasment which now en circle the Freedpeople and from which they seem to suffer most is the small wages they receive and the difficulty attending the collection of the same complaints of this nature have been exceedingly large during the present month. The Freedmen seldom keep any account of their labor or the several amounts paid them of which the whites often take advantage for this there seems to be no remedy as the whites keep a book account which when sworn to before a civil court often proves disadvantageous to the Freedpeople who are not able to present 
an offset to overrule a sworn account.
The written contracts between the employer and employee is very binding on the latter for further information on this subject I herewith submit the following a true copy of printed contracts now in use By agreement with ———————
