Bureau Refugees, Freedmen and Abandoned Lands,
HEADQUARTERS SUB ASST. COM'R, 10th SUB DIST., STATE OF VIRGINIA.
Alexandria, Va., October 31st 1867.

Bvt. Brig. Gen. O. Brown.
Bureau R. F. and A. Lands.
Richmond, Va.

Genl:-
In compliance with Circular No. 6. dated Hd. Qrs Asst. Com'r. District of Va., Richmond. Va. Jan'y. 29th 1867. I have the honor to report that the condition of the Bureau affairs in Alexandria Co. Va. is good. There are no able bodied freedmen for whom employment cannot be found. There have been several applications from females for assistance who have been referred to the civil authorities: the authorities are poor however, and I am afraid the Bureau will have to come forward with assistance this winter to prevent destitution and suffering. The state of feeling between the whites and the freed people is good.

I am General
Very Respectfully.
Your obedient Servant
S.P. Lee
Capt. Bvt. Lt. Col. U.S.A. Sub-Asst. Com'r.
