The school furnishes employment for about one hundred women per week, and the demand is so great, the school can hardly supply the wants of the destitute even by restricting the issues to the worst cases. 

The destitution among the freedpeople is very great, many old people of both sexes entirely unable to support themselves, and many women with families of small children whose husbands in a majority of the cases are off in the country working at reduced wages and who cannot possibly support their families, are daily at this office
