amount viz 33 coats, 38 great coats, 45 trousers 110 shirts 20 drawers, 12 shoes, 17 blankets, 57 womens dresses. These have relieved some of the worst cases of destitution, and distributed as much as possible in every County. The rule has been to so issue as not to encourage idleness. The destitute and homeless are provided for by the several counties.
The interest in schools still continues, and the four principal schools at Abingdon, Wytheville, Newbern and Christiansburg are having goo success. The proficiency made in these schools is highly     creditable to bothe scholars and teachers. There are four small schools in the Dist. supported wholly by Freedmen and taught by colored teachers. There are several places where schools are wanted and a house would be provided and part of the expenses borne if a teacher could be obtained.
Nearly all the Freedmen are finding houses and employment for the coming season. Wages for able men are from 8. to 10 dollars per month and for
