In compliance with endorsement from Hd. Qrs. of Mil. Dist. Vicksburg, Miss dated May 8, 1867 for information as to the status of G.V. McLanahan applicant for Register of the County of Kemper, and the character of the parties recommending the same I have the honor to inform you that upon inquiry relative to the within case, I cannot hear of any thing detrimental to the Status of the applicant. G.V. McLanahan; but in as much as he is recommended by John W. Tully, Sheriff, Geo. L. Wales Clerk Probate Court; Jas Hall, County Court Clerk, Jos. P Hanron, Judge Co. Court, A.I. Overstreet, J.P. John L Hannicult, and the Brittain Brothers, I do not think that his application should receive a favorable consideration for I am aware of many acts that should deter them of any choice in this matter. And I think that upon account of his appointment the same clique that have had the entire control of the civil affairs in that Co. also
