De Kalb, Kemper Co, Miss.
October 26th, 1866

Teacher of Col'd School.

States that her schoolhouse has been broken into and robbed of some books by some Emigrants who were going to Texas, and further that these hands have committed outrages principally on freedmen. The Sheriff refused to act in the matter. States that many say that she receives $8 pr month from the Government.

Freedmen are driving off from their homes simply because their employers did not wish to give them their share of the Crop. Inquires whether the Government can do anything for them.
