NARA 561 Personally appeared before me Bt Maj Thos N. Norton U.S.A Sub Asst Com B.R.F. & A L. Sylvia White, Freedman, who being duly sworn deposes and says that she is the mother of two male children, named respectfully Tom and Ned, that since the close of the late war these children have been in the custody of William P Hall, who is at present an in Keeper residing at Mobile who [[strikethrough]] who [[/strikethrugh]] before the Act of Emancipation was the owner of herself & children, that the said Hall did [[strikethrough]] in Choctaw Co. Ala He [[/strikethrough]] by the action of the Probate Court of Choctaw Co Ala presided over by Judge Baily, and in opposition to her wishes, as well as in opposition to the wishes of the father had these two children apprenticed to him - Deponent being ignorant of laws was led to believe this apprenticeship binding upon her children, but now [[the]] [[?]] [[?]] Miss that such proceeding to make it legal requires the consent of parent or guardian makes application to the Military Authorities to aid her in the recovery possession of her children, whom she declares she is able and willing to support and educate and afford other opportunities of improving their condition
