so rare among them, that I derive no benefit from it in the discharge of my duties. The Freedmen are generally employed; working for pretty fair wages, or for a share of the crops. They manifest much interest in the education of their children; and are establishing schools (Sabbath) all over the County, and also erecting places for public worship. They are becoming more thrifty, and self sustaining, and are less addicted to habits of vice and idleness. The "state of feeling" remains unchanged, and often shows itself in acts of meanness and tyrany. But the freedmen understand it - and with a true fidelity cling to the altars of their Country.
