The apprenticed orphan children as far as I can learn have been well cared for; some of them attending our schools, were it is conveniently for them to do so.
There has not been much improvement among the poor whites; they appear to be the duties of the wealthier clases, and doubtless will remain so, until they are educated to think and act for themselves.
We have visited the several counties, giving encouragement and assistance to the freed-people as far as in our power, and in several instances prevented imposition being practised upon them, by those who would wrong them.
Politically they are more united than a month or two since, and will vote for the constitution notwith standing the displeasure of their employers. This has been brought about through speeches made by the Leaders of the constitution on white man's party, who have denounced them, and not through any efforts of their opponents. But one Republican speech has been made at this place, and that very recently by a colored man, who expects to address the people at the several county seats of these Divisions during the coming month.
