to idle much of their time, but what is more to be depricated Drunkenness is quite prevalent, and not infrequently cases may be seen on the Sevat or Sabbath. I think the course which the white people here have pursued since the close of the war towards them has had a tendency to bring about this state of stirrings, and now they pretend to make the conduct of the colored people a pretext to not only the most bitter denunciations but too frequently outrageous and brutal testament. I have organized one temperance society here of about fifty five members the influence of which I trust may have a good effect upon the community.
