that with suitable rains hereafter, the prospects for a beautiful crop are good. The difference in political views between the white and colored, that have cause some trouble and excitement in some portions of the State, has caused but very little commotion here, save a little side talk. I have been waited on by Gentlemen who informed me that they had understood that I dared any one to discharge their hands for voting for the Constitution. I informed them that I published nothing of the kind, but said to them Gentlemen, - you, like all other men have, claim that you want the freedmen to have equal rights with you before the law and they say yes, and contend and labor for it. Then I tell them that I want the names of all that discharge their hands or threaten to do so for their exercising the Elective-franchise according to the dictates of their own consciences, for if they called that giving equal consideration and exact justice, I wished to know it.
