Yet the interest is in a flourishing condition Quite a number of the freedmen have recently been discharged from service, on account of their political sentiments, but in every instance as far as I can learn, have found new homes - and to some, the change has been to their advantage

Every inducement however is held forth to them, to unite with their former owners, in voting down the constitution, about to be submitted to the people for their ratification; but as far as I can ascertain, with very little success, as the colored people are anxious to be derived from its adoption, and also to show that they will not waver in what they conceive to be their duty, though it may cause them to suffer temporary loss, and bring down upon their heads, the wrath of those who are in opposition to Congressional reconstruction.

Considerable business has been transacted for the Freedmen, in obtaining for them a settlement of their accounts, and attending to their complaints and grievances. In every case we have succeeded in obtaining a satisfactory adjustment of their difficulties.
