made to that end. In the meantime efforts will be made to arrange for a System of Schools with Teachers supported in part by the Freedman and in part by the several Charitable societies formerly having Schools in this Division.

About the same number of Rations has been issued as 
during the previous month. Orders having been received to transfer all paupers previously supported by the Bureau to the Civil Authorities on the 1st of Oct. 1868: Arrangements are in progress to offer aid to said authorities during the remainder of the year in order to lighten the additional burden thus placed upon them and render the transition from Bureau to Civil support of colored paupers less Abrupt

The various other interests of the freedpeople in 
this Division remain substantially as at date of last report
