Considering then the present ignorance of the Freedmen- their poverty stricken condition.-the feeling cherished toward them by the whites-the material of which Courts and Juries are made-the deeply seated prejudices, even of the most intelligent classes-the system of permitting cases in which freedmen are parties to go before the lower Courts especially is simply absurd. Here and there you find an honest independant man, but his opinions and action is betrayed by the clamorings of the masses for the annihilation of the party they consider to be responsible for his present condition.
