States that at Danville are several houses on lands returned to pardoned citizens, which were erected by the confederate Gov't. These houses are claimed by the owners of the land on plea of rent of ground

or some other absurdity. All such buildings have been seized here by the military authorities or himself and he desires to know if Danville shall be exempted. "Shall I seize and sell at public auction?" "or shall I go to Danville, claim all confederate buildings, and render full report of claims and seizures to you for your action and order."

Respectfully returned. Apply to the military commandant of the Dist or Sub District to have these buildings turned over to you. Then forward me a copy of the order turning them over, with an application to sell such as are not required for the Bureau.

State that Thomas Howlett was their Master & father, and died July 9 1856 and willed his estate to his servants. Brig Hatcher was appointed administrator and has cut the timber farm the farm (containing 262 acres) & c & c and says that he deposited the money in confederate stocks and that he cannot get it for them & c & c.
